Businesses received a notice from BC Hydro a couple of weeks ago that there would be a power outage on September 13 and 19 for a window of multiple hours in the middle of the day. The Revelstoke Chamber was alerted by one of our members that this outage was going to happen during 2 busy September events; the Little Bear Soccer Tournament and Revy Bike Fest. These events represent important economic opportunities for our Revelstoke businesses. 

The Chamber has been strengthening its relationship with BCHydro over the past few years, with the goal of building better communications channels between our two organizations. We contacted BCHydro and explained the pain points of these "service windows" and their potential impacts on businesses being able to properly participate in the visitor economy. The Chamber directly requested that BCHydro change the times of the outages to occur in the earlier portion of the day and to also give the businesses direct timing for when the closures would occur.  BCHydro received our request and responded with positive and collaborative updates to the timing of the September 13 outage.

The Chamber has been told the updated timing will be: 

Sept 13 @ 3am - 25 minute outage to the downtown core and highway corridor. Area around soccer fields expected to be included.

Sept 13 @ 9am - 30 minute outage to Big Eddy area and area south of town.

Sept 13 @ 11:30am - 30 minute outage to RMR and other side of river, Southside Grocery included.

The Chamber appreciates BCHydro's flexibility in moving timing as best as they could and we acknowledge the many moving parts that come with the work being done during these outages. We would also like to thank them for acknowledging that businesses knowing the exact time and length of an outage will allow them to be ready and support minimal disruption to their daily operations. 

BCHydro is currently working on the timing of the September 19 outages.
