Youth Summer Camp Leader
The Revelstoke Local Food Initiative Society (LFI) is seeking qualified applicants to coordinate and host our youth camp for the summer of 2027 in Revelstoke, B.C. to increase access to food literacy skills in our community.
Duties include, but are not limited to:
Delivery of the Micro Growers Summer 2025 program, which will consist of 7, 5-day camps (July 6-10, July 13-17 - July 20-24, July 27-July 31, August 10 -14, August 17 -21 and August 24-28), from 8:30am - 4pm
Program planning, design and curriculum development with a focus on exploring the local food systems, hands-on learning, and team building. Procurement of all needed materials. Create the camp schedule.
Act as team lead, guiding other camp coordinators and volunteers on the camp team. Assess existing camp curriculum, camp assets, curriculum and policies.
Incorporate land stewardship concepts relative to the peoples who inhabited our area prior to us into programming.
Execute camp, ensuring that the content of the camp reflects the themes of the weeks.
Maintain a physically and psychologically safe camp environment, ensuring that proper safety policies and procedures are followed.
Manage and book spaces to host the camp, including managing inclement weather days.
Work with external organizations and subject-matter-experts to bring in guests to the camp, managing payment with the LFI bookkeeper.
Help to develop and implement an LFI camp inclusion policy.
Timely submission of invoices and reimbursement notices to parents/guardians.
Conduct all administrative tasks associated with all projects, including careful management of projects budget.
Contribute to the Local Food Initiative Social Media pages.
Work together with the other Local Food Initiatives contractors (where applicable) to link up other programming efforts for garden members and the community at large.
Document the program through photographs and digital documents on the LFI file-sharing platforms.
Maintain positive working relationships with all stakeholders and program partners.
Ongoing communication with the Executive Director.
Final reporting on programs after completion due by September 15th 2025 in partnership with the other camp coordinator.
ADMINISTRATION
Document the program through photographs, uploading them to the LFI drive.
Conduct all administrative tasks associated with the project, including careful management of project budget.
Keep digital records of program documents on LFI file-sharing platforms.
Maintain positive working relationships with stakeholders and program partners.
Work together with the other Local Food Initiatives contractors (where applicable).
Provide a written monthly update on camp activities to the LFI Executive Director.
Provide a detailed project report by 15 days after the end of the contract.
Desired skills and attributes for this position:
Previous experience working with children is an asset (Must provide a criminal record check to work with the vulnerable sector).
Experience and knowledge with gardens, and growing and processing food is considered an asset (but not necessary).
Delivering workshops and education is considered an asset.
Strong interpersonal and leadership skills.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Highly organized, ability to prioritize, work efficiently, and manage budgets.
Proficient use of email, word processing, and spreadsheets.
Knowledge of and a passion for sustainable living practices, including an understanding of the issues of food security and the value of locally produced food as it relates to health, climate change, etc.
Must be comfortable working outdoors.
This position will report to the Executive Board of the Local Food Initiative and will be rewarded $26-30/hour with a maximum of 40 hours per week for eight (8) weeks. Weekly hours worked may fluctuate based on seasonal demands.
