If you answered yes to the above questions, we’re looking for people like you to join Tourism Revelstoke’s Stoke Squad this summer! The Stoke Squad Project Coordinators will play a pivotal role in supporting sustainable tourism and branding initiatives in Revelstoke. Working in the "Stoke Squad" team, you will engage directly with visitors and locals to promote environmental stewardship, responsible travel practices, and memorable visitor experiences. This team will be on the ground representing the REVELSTOKE. brand and promoting what #TheRealStoke is all about. This position is intended to create meaningful job experiences for youth while advancing green career-related activities and will report to the Brand & PR Manager. 

The key outcomes of this role are:

- Increased visitor and resident awareness of invasive species prevention, wildfire safety, and sustainable recreation.

- More visitors and locals adopting Clean, Drain, Dry practices to protect local waterways.

- Increased compliance with FireSmart principles, reducing campfire-related wildfire risks.

- More recreationists following Leave No Trace principles, reducing trail and habitat degradation.

- Increased membership support for local trail organizations, leading to better-maintained infrastructure.

- Strengthened association between the REVELSTOKE. brand and sustainable travel behaviors.

- Increased event support for our community.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Engagement and Education:

  • Provide climate, environmental, and responsible travel education to residents and visitors.
    Promote safe and sustainable front/backcountry recreation practices.
    Educate the public on the movement of invasive species and best practices for minimizing environmental impacts.
    Discourage visitation to environmentally sensitive areas.
    Promote and support local Non-Profit Organizations focused on environmental conservation.

  • Event Activation and Outreach:

  • Plan and execute innovative activities to engage the public at designated locations.
    Represent and increase awareness of the Tourism Revelstoke brand while embodying #TheRealStoke.
    Support Tourism Revelstoke and other community groups with events and event equipment rentals  
    Utilize various engagement tools such as pledge cards, photo stations, and sustainable swag giveaways (hat, stickers, reusable bags, etc).
    Interact directly with residents and visitors, promoting key messages and answering questions.


  • Data Collection and Reporting:

  • Collect data in the field to inform future campaigns and initiatives.
    Complete daily reports documenting interactions, visitor demographics, key topics of conversation, and user feedback.
    Provide feedback to the program manager on event activations and visitor engagement strategies.
    Encourage users to complete surveys, such as  the Visitor Experience Survey, Resident Sentiment Survey, Sustain the Stoke Quiz, and other data collection strategies.

Logistics and Support:

Assist in packing, loading, unloading, set up, and tear down of event activation equipment.

Transport event activation equipment to designated locations by vehicle or bike.

Work collaboratively with the program manager and stakeholders to ensure successful project execution.


Other tasks, as required:
Opportunities to work with the Tourism Revelstoke marketing team in content creation, digital asset management, website maintenance, and social media  


Qualifications:

A Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in environmental science, tourism management, marketing/events, communications, or related field is considered an asset

Previous knowledge in educational areas listed above will be viewed as an asset but is not essential, as on the job training can be provided for someone with the right attitude

Passion for Revelstoke, environmental stewardship and sustainable tourism

Experience in community outreach, event planning, or environmental education preferred

Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to enthusiastically engage diverse audiences

Knowledge of environmental conservation principles, outdoor recreation best practices, Leave No Trace Principles, and sustainability initiatives

Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and problem solve in dynamic environments

Valid driver's license and access to reliable transportation that can be used for work purposes (mileage is reimbursed at 73¢ per kilometre)

Must be able to work in Canada

Must be available to work weekends. 

First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain) is considered an asset.

Must be able to lift 35lbs


Wage:

$27.80/hour (hours will vary between 30-35 hours per week depending on events and activations)

Additional hours or employment extension may available 

Full Time (May 1 - September 30)
