Job description

As a lead carpenter working for Appenzell, we expect the employee to be proficient, self reliant, and effective in completing various tasks and duties that they are given. These duties and skills required consist of tasks such as;

- Supervising a team of carpenters, apprentices, laborers, and subcontractors.

- Inform the project managers of the progress of the project, including any customer concerns, problems, delays, etc. throughout the project.

- Work closely with project managers to manage changes on site, create and track schedules, procure materials, and manage subcontractors.

- Maintaining accurate records of all work done by the project team.

- Be responsible for the efficient use of time, manpower, and materials on each project.

- Maintain an operational inventory of necessary tools, safety equipment, equipment and vehicles.

Performing all carpentry duties required, including the following:

- Read and interpret architectural and engineering drawings and plans

- Prepare and set out building foundations

- Cut and install concrete forms for building foundations

- Measure, cut and erect timber frame walls, flooring systems and roof systems

- Measure, cut and install various siding materials made up of timber, metal and fiber-cement

- Measure, cut and install internal finishes consisting of casements, baseboards, chair rails etc.

- Install doors, windows and the necessary hardware required

Create and maintain a safe and healthy jobsite

- Providing workers with training before they undertake new tasks

- Verifying workers' performance meets safety expectations

- Correcting improper and unsafe work activities and conditions

- Identifying any new workplace hazards and taking steps to ensure everyone stays safe

- Reinforcing safe and proper work performance

- Recording a daily entry in a supervisor journal or log book

- Ensuring all documentation is clear, appropriate, and frequent, showing a systematic approach to safety


Position Details

Type: Long-term payroll position

Company Culture: Respectful and inclusive with opportunities for advancement and growth

Compensation: $34.00-$44.00/hours and benefits

Experience: Certs/Red Seal preferred but not mandatory

Own Tools/Equipment: Tool belt and personal tools, Safety equipment/gear, Steel-toed safety boots, Safety glasses/goggles

Transportation/Travel: Own transportation

Personal Suitability: Judgement, Excellent oral communication, Effective interpersonal skills, Values and ethics, Team player, Reliability

Additional Skills: Schedule and coordinate work on site, Instruct apprentices, Supervise other workers
