Farmer's Market Manager

Location: Revelstoke, BC (onsite)
Contract Term: Part-time employee
Hours: Weekly Summer market May-October, Bi-monthly winter market November-April - must be able to work Saturdays.
Compensation: $27-30/hour, with a monthly phone bill stipend.
The Farmers Market Coordinator is responsible for the successful planning, administration, operation, and continuous improvement of the Revelstoke Local Food Initiative's Summer Farmers Market and Winter Market. The Coordinator creates vibrant, and economically sustainable markets that support local producers, artisans, food entrepreneurs, and the broader community.
Working closely with the Executive Director and the Market Advisory Committee, the Coordinator oversees all aspects of market operations including vendor recruitment and retention, policy administration, regulatory compliance, financial management, safety, marketing, stakeholder relationships, and program evaluation.
Key Responsibilities
The Coordinator acts as the primary representative of the market, fostering positive relationships with vendors, customers, community partners, neighboring businesses, City staff, volunteers, and the BC Association of Farmers' Markets.
Market Operations
Coordinate all operational aspects of the Summer Farmers Market and Winter Market from pre-season planning through post-season evaluation.
Manage weekly market operations including site set-up, vendor placement, signage, traffic management, road barriers, accessibility, customer flow, and site tear-down.
Ensure markets operate safely, professionally, and efficiently while providing an exceptional customer and vendor experience.
Develop seasonal site maps and vendor layouts that maximize safety, accessibility, and customer engagement.
Maintain all market equipment and supplies, ensuring assets are stored, inventoried, and maintained appropriately.
Vendor Relations & Administration
Primary point of contact for all vendors before, during, and after the market season.
Manage the market@revelstokelocalfood.com email account and respond promptly to inquiries and applications.
Recruit, evaluate, and retain a diverse mix of agricultural producers, food vendors, artisans, and community organizations to support a vibrant marketplace.
Manage vendor applications, approvals, waitlists, attendance, cancellations, stall assignments, and vendor communications.
Build strong, respectful, and professional relationships with vendors while supporting their success and addressing concerns in a fair and consistent manner.
Collect vendor fees and ensure accurate financial records are maintained.
Market Manager supports the vendor recruitment and management at the Revelstoke Garlic Festival, an important LFI fundraiser.
Market Policies & Compliance
Administer and enforce all Revelstoke Local Food Initiative Market Policies in a fair, transparent, and consistent manner.
Ensure vendors understand and comply with market rules, product eligibility requirements, food safety expectations, insurance requirements, and operational procedures.
Maintain compliance with the standards and best practices established by the BC Association of Farmers' Markets (BCAFM).
Support vendors in meeting applicable municipal, provincial, and health authority regulations.
Address policy violations professionally and document incidents as required.
Recommend policy improvements that strengthen fairness, transparency, and market integrity.
Farmers' Market Nutrition Coupon Program
Coordinate the delivery of the Farmers' Market Nutrition Coupon Program in accordance with BCAFM program requirements.
Administer coupon redemption, vendor reimbursement, and reporting processes.
Ensure participating vendors understand program guidelines and redemption procedures.
Maintain accurate financial records and submit required documentation by program deadlines.
Advocate to BCAFM for continued program implementation.
Support the Food Security Coordinator to implement a winter nutrition coupon program.
Health, Safety & Risk Management
Ensure markets operate in accordance with safety policies and applicable legislation.
Implement site safety procedures including emergency access, first aid, traffic management, weather response, and incident reporting.
Conduct regular safety inspections before and during market operations.
Ensure safety equipment, signage, barriers, and first aid supplies are in place & maintained.
Respond appropriately to emergencies, incidents, or conflicts while documenting all significant occurrences.
Identify risks and recommend improvements to reduce liability and enhance public safety.
Must be able to work for extended periods of time, and lift up to 40lbs.
Marketing & Community Engagement
Promote the Summer and Winter Markets through social media, community partnerships, tourism initiatives, and local advertising.
Support initiatives that increase attendance, customer engagement, and market visibility.
Foster positive relationships with neighbouring businesses, community organizations, buskers, performers, sponsors, tourism partners, and the City of Revelstoke.
Collect feedback from vendors, customers, and stakeholders.
Financial Administration
Administer the market budget within approved funding allocations.
Track revenues, expenses, vendor fees, sponsorships, and program expenditures.
Maintain accurate financial/administrative records.
Support grant reporting and funding requirements as requested.
Governance & Reporting
Work collaboratively with the Market Advisory Committee to advance the goals and strategic direction of the Farmers Market program.
Prepare quarterly operational updates for the Market Advisory Committee (MAC).
Submit monthly reports to the Executive Director for inclusion in Board reporting.
Prepare end-of-season reports summarizing participation, financial performance, operational outcomes, vendor feedback, market statistics, successes, challenges, and recommendations.
Maintain organized digital records including photographs, statistics, policies, forms, and operational documents within LFI file management systems.
