Curator Assistant - YCW
The Revelstoke Railway Museum is seeking a motivated Curator Assistant to support the development, documentation, and care of our collections. This YCW-funded student position provides hands-on experience in museum operations, including collections management, archival work, administrative support, public engagement, and light exhibition assistance.
The Curator Assistant will work closely with the Curator and museum staff, gaining practical skills in artifact handling, cataloguing, research, digital archives, visitor services, and program support. This is an excellent opportunity for students or recent graduates interested in museums, heritage, or cultural sector careers.
Key Responsibilities
Assist with cataloguing, accessioning, and database updates of museum collections.
Contribute to the digital archives and research support for the public and museum projects.
Provide administrative support, including filing, grant documentation, and reporting.
Support visitor engagement, programming, and light exhibition-related tasks under supervision.
Participate in team meetings and collaborative projects with museum staff and volunteers.
Qualifications
Must be a post-secondary student or recent graduate eligible for Young Canada Works funding.
Enrolled or recently completed a program in Museum Studies, History, Art History, Heritage Conservation, or a related field; other relevant backgrounds will be considered.
Strong organizational, communication, and research skills.
Basic computer proficiency, including office software; familiarity with museum databases (PastPerfect) is an asset.
Ability to work collaboratively, follow instructions, and handle artifacts safely.
