Hours: Part time $32 hours/month (Varies with season)
Wage: $30-$35/Hour based on experience
Location: Remote (occasional office visits); Revelstoke preferred
Overview
The Bookkeeper is responsible for the day-to-day financial recordkeeping and bookkeeping functions of the Revelstoke Heritage Railway Society and Revelstoke Railway Museum. Working independently under the direction of the Executive Director and in collaboration with the Manager of Administration, the Bookkeeper ensures the accuracy and integrity of financial records, processes payroll and accounts payable, completes required government remittances and filings, and supports the organization's financial reporting requirements.
This position plays an important role in supporting the Museum's operations by maintaining accurate financial information, assisting with budget development, supporting grant reporting and project tracking, and preparing documentation for year-end reviews and audits. The successful candidate will have strong bookkeeping experience, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities while working in a remote environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Maintain accurate financial records using QuickBooks Online
- Post business transactions to appropriate accounts using source documents (e.g. invoices, receipts, cash reports)
- Reconcile and balance accounts regularly, including bank and credit card statements
- Perform account analysis and reconciliation of intercompany general ledger accounts
- Manage weekly accounts payable and ensure timely, accurate processing of payments to suppliers
- Record daily sales and manage bookkeeping tasks
- Calculate wages, process bi-weekly payroll, and prepare Records of Employment (ROEs)
- File related remittances and government filings (GST, PST, T4s, WCB, payroll deductions)
- Assist with budget development and grant management
- Generate monthly and annual financial statements and reports for internal and external stakeholders, including the Executive Director and Finance Committee
- Compile project-specific financial reports for grant reporting and audits
- Prepare year-end materials for the external accountant and support the audit process
- Provide financial reporting and support for museum retail operations
- Perform other related duties as required
Qualifications:
- In depth knowledge of bookkeeping and basic office procedures.
- five years of bookkeeping in an office environment
- Previous experience working for a not-for-profit or charity preferred
- Accounting Certificate or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Strong organizational skills, including ability to prioritize a variety of tasks.
- Proficient with office specific computer applications, including Quickbooks, MS Word, Excel, and online email systems.
- Knowledge of Shopify is an asset
- Strong interpersonal skills.
