Grant Helgeson
Director of Product (Avalanche Canada)

Grant Helgeson leads product at Avalanche Canada, where his team is advancing automated avalanche forecasting and building visualizations to help forecasters interpret snow, weather, and avalanche data. His talk explores the tension between these expert-facing systems and the public’s need for simple, modern tools, used for less than a minute on average by people planning trips in avalanche terrain.

District Avalanche Supervisor for the Ministry of Transportation and Transit Rocky Mountain District.

Responsible for avalanche safety of 300 km of provincial highways in Revelstoke and Golden
Spent 27 years forecasting for ski areas, industry, and highways
Built managed the avalanche program at Revelstoke Mountain Resort for 12 years
Industry Training Program course leader for the Canadian Avalanche Association
