About Revelstoke parkrun
Revelstoke parkrun is a community-focused initiative designed to bring people together through free, friendly, weekly 5-kilometre events. Whether participants walk, jog, run, volunteer, or spectate, parkrun aims to create an inclusive environment where everyone feels welcome.
We are looking for enthusiastic, reliable volunteers who want to help build a welcoming community, encourage physical activity, and make Saturday mornings a little more special for people of all ages and abilities.
You don't need to be a runner to volunteer. You simply need a positive attitude and a willingness to help.
Position Summary
As a Revelstoke parkrun volunteer, you will help deliver a safe, enjoyable, and well-organized community event. Depending on your preferred role, you may welcome participants, record finish times, scan barcodes, and Tail walking.
Volunteers are essential to the success of parkrun. Every role contributes to ensuring that participants can enjoy the event in a friendly and supportive atmosphere.
Key Responsibilities
Depending on the volunteer role assigned, responsibilities may include:
- Timekeeping: Record participants' finish times using the designated timing system.
- Finish tokens: Distribute finish tokens to participants as they complete the course.
- Barcode scanning: Scan participant barcodes and finish tokens to record results accurately.
- Tail walking: Walk at the back of the event to help ensure participants are supported and nobody is left behind.
- Photography: Take event photos before and during the run.
Volunteers may choose roles that suit their interests, abilities, and comfort levels.
Qualifications and Requirements
No previous volunteering, running, or event-management experience is necessary.
Successful volunteers should demonstrate:
- Reliability and punctuality.
- A friendly, welcoming attitude.
- Good communication and a willingness to assist others.
- Respect for people of all backgrounds, ages, and fitness levels.
- An ability to follow event instructions and applicable safety procedures.
- A willingness to work cooperatively with other volunteers.
Some roles require standing or walking outdoors, potentially in cool, wet, or snowy conditions. Other roles may involve less movement, depending on the event's needs and available positions. Volunteers should discuss any accessibility requirements when arranging their role.
There is no requirement to volunteer every week. Occasional, monthly, and regular volunteers are all valuable to the community.
What We Offer
- The opportunity to support a free community running event.
- A welcoming, inclusive, and community-minded environment.
- On-the-job guidance and training for your assigned role.
- Opportunities to meet local residents and connect with the Revelstoke community.

- Flexible participation based on volunteer availability.
- The satisfaction of helping people of different abilities enjoy being active outdoors.
This is an unpaid volunteer position. It does not include wages or guaranteed employment.
Accessibility and Inclusion
We welcome volunteers with a range of abilities, backgrounds, and experience levels. You do not need to be physically fit or participate in the 5K yourself.
We will aim to match volunteers with suitable roles wherever possible. If you have mobility limitations or prefer a role with minimal walking, standing, or bending, please let the event coordinator know so available options can be discussed.
All volunteers are expected to treat participants and fellow volunteers with kindness and respect.
