The Illecillewaet Greenbelt Society is looking for passionate individuals to join our team! Help us preserve and enhance Revelstoke’s riparian zone while supporting year-round recreation. We are especially in need of new Board members with knowledge and interest in the Environmental Stewardship of our beautiful river valley.  And our Treasurer would like to pass along this role.

• Attend monthly evening Board meetings (2nd Thursday, 2 hours).
• Contribute to conservation efforts and sustainable trail use.
• Volunteer on projects you’re passionate about.

About Us

The Illecillewaet Greenbelt Society (IGS) is a small - but passionate - organization dedicated to preserving the natural riparian zone along the Illecillewaet River. This area includes vital woodlands and meadows that support local wildlife and offer a space for the community to enjoy nature. We balance conservation with accessibility by maintaining year-round recreational opportunities for all.

Our key goals include:

• Maintaining natural habitat for wildlife within city limits.
• Conserving natural resources to protect this essential ecosystem.
• Promoting responsible and sustainable use of the area.

We accomplish this through a range of initiatives, including:

• Developing and maintaining a network of multi-use trails.
• Providing winter track setting for recreational activities.
• Removing invasive plant species.
• Preserving and restoring habitat for native wildlife.
• Partnering with local organizations on conservation projects.

Role Overview

As a Board Member, you’ll help shape the future of our organization, guiding efforts to protect and enhance the beautiful riparian zone we all love. Together, we’ll set goals, oversee meaningful projects, and support the Society’s operations—all while making a real impact for our Revy community.

Responsibilities

• Attend Board Meetings: Participate in board meetings to discuss progress, address challenges, and plan activities.
• Strategic Planning: Contribute to setting goals, priorities, and strategies for the organization.
• Advocacy and Outreach: Act as an ambassador for IGS, promoting its mission and engaging with community members, stakeholders, and potential partners.
• Volunteer Support: Encourage volunteers and assist with projects that interest you such as trail maintenance, conservation initiatives and fundraising.
• Governance: Support adherence to policies, ensure compliance with bylaws, and uphold the organization’s values.

Time Commitment

• Attend 2-hour Board meetings in the evening of the 2nd Thursday of each month.
• Respond to emails in a timely fashion as required.
• Additional volunteer time on projects and initiatives that you are interested in.
