Whether you’re a new director, tackling leadership challenges, or looking to expand on your current Board experience, this half-day workshop will provide the tools, background, and guidance to help you accelerate your effectiveness as a Director. 

This workshop enables non-profits to improve governance practices and achieve their true potential. This workshop doesn’t just educate participants on governance – it will energize your Board by turning complex processes into actionable strategies to strengthen your organization. 

This workshop is focused on policy governance, where a board-appointed Executive Director manages day-to-day operations.  

Topics covered include:

  • Orientation to effective corporate governance.
  • Roles and responsibilities of the Board, a Director, and Board Chair (& Officers).
  • Review of fiduciary duty and conflict of interest guidelines for Board Directors.
  • Planning key events and processes for the annual board calendar.
  • Practical application of agenda development and committee structure.
  • Defining governing policies versus operational policies.
  • Overview of the “Six Elements of Governing”.

ABOUT THE FACILITATOR - Dan Rogers brings his decade long senior management experience in the Chamber of Commerce network to guide participants through the critical areas of corporate governance. As a former local government elected official who spent fifteen years on Prince George City Council, Dan has spent most of his career either working for Boards or refining his leadership skills while serving on them. He currently provides business development consulting services for several Chambers in B.C. He is also a current Director on the Canadian Chamber of Commerce Board.
