Revelstoke, BC — Revelstoke is bringing the Kootenays' entrepreneurial spirit to the big screen with the BroadKAST Film Festival, a free evening of short films, live conversation, and community connection at the historic Roxy Theatre on Thursday, April 23. Doors open at 6:30 p.m.

This free community event shines a spotlight on the Kootenays’ vibrant innovation culture. Six entrepreneurs from KAST’s Venture Acceleration Program (VAP) will take the stage to share their personal journeys—what it really takes to build a business, a career, and a life in the region. Their stories offer a rare, candid look at the challenges and triumphs of growing a company in a rural innovation ecosystem.

The evening will also feature representatives from the Industrial Research Assistance Program (IRAP), offering support, insight, and resources for innovators and small businesses looking to take their ideas to the next level.
 Whether you’re a business owner, an aspiring founder, a tech enthusiast, or simply someone who loves to learn, this event is designed to welcome you in. Midway through the evening, a mix‑and‑mingle intermission will give attendees the chance to connect, spark new opportunities, and gather fresh insights.

The BroadKAST Film Festival builds on KAST's successful inaugural screening in Nelson in September 2025, and its arrival in Revelstoke reflects the community's growing momentum as a hub for rural innovation.  Over the past several years, the City has advanced a community-wide Technology Strategy — supported by a $100,000 BC Rural Dividend Fund grant.

This event marks a key milestone in advancing Revelstoke’s Community Economic Development – Tech Strategy by strengthening communication and visibility, expanding local tech‑focused events and learning opportunities, and improving community access to innovation resources. It also directly supports regional recommendations from the January 19, 2026 Revelstoke & Area Economic Development meeting by fostering more tech meet ups and deepening collaboration with partners such as KAST, KORE, and other stakeholders across the Kootenays—building momentum toward a more connected, resilient, and opportunity‑rich regional innovation ecosystem.
